DeWinterizing My House

DeWinterizing- from the verb "DeWinterize"
(dee-win-ter-eye-zing)
Definition: To remove all decorative elements from the interior of the home that reflect the cold chill of the winter season.

Call me crazy, but when my daffodils are in full bloom in my front flower bed, I see it as Mother Nature's sign that it's time to box up the Winter decorations that I've been guiltily eyeing as I walk from room to room.

Even though the wind here in Virginia still has a bite to it, and we've had our share of chilly, rainy days, it was time to say goodbye to Winter.

It doesn't mean I'm ready to bust out the bunnies and the eggs and the Spring, but it was time to let the Snowflake Pom Pom Banner go.

I'm actually kind of digging the bare look right now, and I think I'll keep it this way for a bit before I trudge back up to the attic for the Springy decor box.

Having the wall bare is great reminder that I need to get my rear to the store and buy some dang primer. The red has been around for so long, and I'm ready for a change. (fyi, it's actually a deeper red--not an "oops! I accidentally slashed my wrist red") I'm just not ready to do all the taping, priming, and painting.

I'm gonna go gray, and in a good way!

{Have you DeWinterized yet?}

  2. Sadly I still have one Christmas decoration hanging in my kitchen and the rest of my decor is still Valentine's day! I need to get out the Easter stuff soon! I can't wait to see the gray!

  3. HA! Slashed my wrist red - you're so funny! I don't think I ever did anything "winter" that wasn't "Christmas". Sometimes it pays off to be lazy - less to take down. BUT, I gotta get something done for spring! Can't wait to see what you've got up your spring sleeve.

  4. I'm working on it! Today is a big cleaning day (after reading blogs, of course)! Your yard is beautiful!!! I cannot wait to see spring arrive here!

  5. We had a little thaw a few weeks ago, and I dewinterized the porch then, and put up the spring wreath etc. And then it showed. Alot. The wreath looked ridiculous covered in snow - but now that the snow is gone again it makes me happy to see my spring stuff :)

And I left a lot of bare spaces within my house after removing the Christmas decor...it feels airy. :)

  6. Hmmm...I think this does count as purging.
    You removed, simplified.
Purging is not always carrying 7 bags of unneeded/unwanted items to Goodwill.
I'm just now, as I am typing, rethinking the term purging...
if it feels feeing, then it's purging.
Please come link up--I think the readers can see that they can do something smaller or simpler and still purge.
I'll make some fresh punch and cookies for you!
I am gearing up to paint over our red walls and remove the wallpaper in our foyer...looking forward to it, so we can sell, but I do so love the toile. I think I'll cry.
    HUGS to you!
    And a thank you, too!

  8. I am so ready to dewinterize! My living room is the worst space that needs it. My crystal snowflakes are still out as well as my wintery looking P. Buckley Moss ornaments. They all need to be boxed away.

I am thinking about going ahead and putting out my Easter things. I love, love, love my bunnies and if I'm going to the trouble to decorate, I may as well enjoy it for a long while!

  9. Beautiful daffodils! I've seen some of the green poking up here and there, but we don't have anything blooming around here yet. Hurry, spring!

  11. I started de-winterizing as well! About two weeks ago. I have a chocolate brown bedroom and it needs to go! I am thinking cafe latte'? Or something close to that with white molding. Bright...refreshing...change! It's time!
But the thought of priming and taping and moving furniture has me stalled too! Ha!
Good luck to both of us.
I am envious of your daffodils by the way. They are gorgeous!
    No spring flowers here! Sigh!

  12. I am soooo jealous of your beautiful daffodils! I cannot wait for my flowers to bloom! I am all. snowed. out. So over winter. i'm all about putting up Easter decor if it gets the warm here faster!

My house is in desperate need of re-painting in many rooms...it's just so hard to get it done!

  13. The photo of your daffodils made me *sigh*. I cannot wait for spring! I have my spring/Easter totes sitting in the dining room. They've been sitting there for a week almost. I just can't get myself in gear.

Yeah, I think it's definitely time for the red to go. Just do it! I can't wait to see how it looks. :)

I love to hear your feedback! Please feel free to leave comments...just don't send me spam asking me to buy stuff off your website! I've got three kids and no money to purchase your magic weight-loss pill or bust enhancement, or whatever else you might be selling. Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you! :)
