Thrifty Treasures: A Heavenly Church Yard Sale

One of my favorite local church yard sales was yesterday. It's the kind where we had to arrive 40 minutes early just to get a parking spot. The prices are low and the goods are plentiful.

I had the foresight to bring the portable DVD player and an Elmo DVD for our wait, but one of the two decided to konk out on us and we had to evacuate to the sidewalk with the rest of the sale goers. I stood in line, hands clutching my reusable shopping bag with anticipation, mouth calling warnings to my girls as they ran in circles on the sidewalk like this:
My warning came too late and Natalie fell off the sidewalk. Her pride was the only thing injured, as a crowd of people was watching her. Thanks goodness my mother-in-law arrived to distract the girls, because I am certain they would have resumed running in frantic circles, causing jealousy amongst our linemates at the energy they possessed at 7:30 in the morning.

The church gym was packed with people and wares, but I've learned to shop quickly with two little ones in tow.

I reward good behavior (Michaela Byrd stayed in her umbrella stroller the entire time) with a donut hole at Dunkin Donuts.

I was rewarded with a few great finds (and a café mocha).

Two ceramic ramekins, $0.05 each.

Adorable (Target) Valentine's Day towel (I remember admiring this one in the store): $0.50

Neat wood bowl thing, waiting for white paint: $0.50

Leopard Print Dress-up Shoes: $0.50

Awesome white planter from a long-closed local shop: $0.75
 It looks great with the verbena plant the mother-in-law helped Natalie surprise me with after the sale! Just needs some potting mix.

{Did you find any Thrifty Treasures this weekend?}

Great finds. I totally understand where you're coming from on the kids and their energy. My two wear me out just watching them.

Great finds! Your girls are too cute! I bought that exact same footed bowl at the thrift store awhile back. I tried to paint it white and it didn't work out very well. My advice...prime it first! Mine is all messed up in the basement holding odds and ends on top of the dryer.

Loved your title. I had one of the heavenly church sales as well. My church prices were starting at dimes and nickels.

Love the wooden bowl thing. What would you use it for?

Love the stuff. Also......I have never had a mother in law, but I play one in real life. We try hard to please our daughters in law, yet are often still seen as the enemy. I am thinking you didnt mean it to sound condescending when you called yours "the mother in law" but I bet she would have prefered be be called "my mother in law" or even "hubbys mom...just sounds more respectful. Sadly our attituds about people rub off on our children. Just a little thing.
