Thrifty Thursday: It's Chic to Be Cheap {16}

I'm editing this oldie but goodie to link up to Holly's IKEA Party. Too much fun!

Lots of pictures today, people!
I'd love to say that I won the lottery last weekend and that this is me lounging in my newly furnished addition that my favorite designing bloggers jointly designed for moi.

But it's not. On Sunday, Su-Su (my sis-in-law) and I went to....(drum roll, please).....
Can you guess? No really, can you?

In case you haven't had coffee yet this morning, we went to IKEA! I had to pick up my bridesmaid dress up in Northern Virginia, and Su-Su and I planned a little jaunt over to our favorite Swedish discount home store.

Su-Su and Jamie (my brother) are buying their first house this month, and she wanted some inspiration. I wanted some deals. I sometimes feel like I need to be a 5' 11" blonde named Annika, married to a Sven to shop there, but I get over it fast when we hit the front doors. I'm not a fan of their ultra modern stuff, but they do have some cute "Swedish Country" pieces that are fun. T hates furniture that you have to glue together, so I knew I couldn't come home with any IKEA furniture....

Get ready for some IKEA Eye Candy!

We had the best time exploring all the little "apartments" (always my favorite part of IKEA!). The room below was Su-Su's favorite. She quite forgot we were shopping, she was so comfortable. She laid right down to take a nap.

I think heaven might look like this closet/dressing room.

I liked the double sinks and vanities in black with the pale blue wall. I would have no reason to fight T over who gets to brush teeth first in this bath!

J'adore (I know that's not Swedish, y'all) this blue dresser!

We thought the back splash in this kitchen was neat!

We just liked the sink, okay?

Cool aqua tiles and nice stainless!

Here's Su-Su in my favorite kitchen! I loved the little white table, the red on the chandelier, and the little desk nook that you can't see.

This was the light over the sink. So stinkin' cute!

One of the kids' rooms was so ugly...it looked like something out of Mickey and Minnie's house in Disney, but we liked this one. They did a good job using the small space to fit two (pretend) kids in. My question? Where are all the toys on the floor?!

We decided to stop at Panera Bread (my fave!) on the way home for a late lunch. Su-Su's soup and sandwich looked so good, I had to take a picture. She is thinking, "Put the ^%%$# camera down so I can eat my food!"

This is me enjoying the glorious feeling of the caffeine coursing through my system. I do not have a problem. Repeat, I do not have a problem.

Here's what I picked up for my Thrifty Thursday finds! A pack of 5 cardboard magazine holders for $2.50, I think. They have a rendezvous planned with some new scrapbook paper. The little lamp shades were $3.00 each. I also picked up some amazing bottled fruity drinks that I featured in Tuesday's post.

Here's my dining room before. (Excuse the sewing machine)

Here's the after. I like the look and it diffuses the light for sure. I HATE the popcorn ceiling, but that's something we'll have to live with. T promised me crown moulding 4 years ago, but that's a forgotten dream right now (well, I haven't completely forgotten!)

{Do you have a store you look forward to visiting??}
(My other fave is the Hobby Lobby in San Antonio!!)
Happy Thrifty Thursday!

  1. I enjoyed your IKEA eye candy pictures. I've never been in an IKEA! Your chandelier looks good with its new shades. I definitely would have bought some of the magazine holders. I need some and the price that you paid seems really inexpensive.

    Can you believe I have never been to IKEA? I know it's crazy, but there are none near here. Bummer!

    I always look forward to going to the Christmas Tree Shops. You never know what you'll find in there!

    Have a great day!

  5. HomeGoods! I dream about going to HomeGoods. The closest one I know of though is up in Springfield. I am sure there is one down in Richmond somewhere, but since that city hates me, I won't even try to find out. lol

    Maybe we should make the trip together one weekday. :)

  7. I love Ikea as well and since our local store is over an hour away, it always becomes a full day adventure. (Can't believe you didn't eat at Ikea. We all love their food. Their Mac & Cheese is yummy.)

    Thanks for the pictures as I just fell in love with the blue dresser. Painting my future bedroom blue and I think a couple of these dressers might just be perfect.

  11. Ooh, can't wait to see what you're up to tomorrow.

    Do you know I have an Ikea 15 minutes from my house, and I've NEVER been there? Have sooo wanted to, but never been. Waaah.

    Love your little lamp shades...they give the room a cozy feeling. Not like I can really feel like what your room feels like, since I'm not there...but it LOOKS like it feels that way!

    I also like your glasses!

I love to hear your feedback! Please feel free to leave comments...just don't send me spam asking me to buy stuff off your website! I've got three kids and no money to purchase your magic weight-loss pill or bust enhancement, or whatever else you might be selling. Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you! :)
