Quality Time

I thought I'd start today's post by thanking those of you who took the time to let me know you were thinking about and praying for Michaela Byrd and her big appointment with the specialist yesterday. That meant a lot to me. We received some good surgery unless the gallstones multiply or give her trouble. Yay!

Before we received that good news, I spent a good deal of time fretting, because that's what I do. I'm really good at it. I knew when I was about ready to buy a one-way ticket to crazy town that I was in need of a little "Me Time."

Thankfully, T was home last Friday, so I left him with the girls during naptime so I could go someplace where "everybody knows your name."

Well, they know my name anyways. 'Cause I like their mochas so much.

The line was almost out the door when I walked in from the freezing, pouring rain.
I didn't mind though because I didn't have two little ones running around trying to find a high chair, asking when it would be our turn, and licking the pastry window.

Doesn't it look heavenly back there?

They had a cozy fire going. I was able to enjoy it without Michaela Byrd pointing and shouting "Fire! Hot!" so the whole restaurant could hear her.

I settled in with a very-bad-for-me, comfort-food panini and a soda...and some magazines.
It was perfection to sit and flip through an issue of Southern Living without opening someone's yogurt or saying, "Please, won't you just take a bite of your cheese sandwich? Look how yummy it is!"

After lunch, I headed down the street to one of my favorite places:

My heart swells with love whenever I walk into Borders. I can't explain it.

I browsed the magazine section...

...ran into Robert Pattinson.

Y'all know about my love for Fluffy Books, so you know I couldn't resist a trip down the Fluffy Book, er chick lit., aisle.

By the time I was through looking at Christmas books in the children's section, I saw that naptime at home was nearly over. I hurried to the checkout and then through the puddle-filled parking lot to my car.

As I drove home, I thought about how nice it was to just get out and have some "quality time" with my own self. I didn't feel the need to dress up, think of conversation topics, or worry if the other person was having a good time. I had a chance to sit with my own thoughts and do what I wanted to do for a chance. It was wonderful!

Do you know what I mean? Do you ever start to feel overwhelmed and you just need a few minutes to escape? What do you do?

  1. Panera and a bookstore in one day? My idea of a fantastic day. Throw in some RPattz and you're talking heaven.
Glad to know MK is doing well and won't need surgery.

  2. Sounds priceless! I also love a fluffy book and drooling over Twilight!

  3. soooooooo happy to hear that no surgery is planned at this time.

we're heading off to s.carolina for a few days & we'll have no internet connection. i'll miss reading your posts :( !

hope you have a very happy & blessed thanksgiving!

    peace -

  4. AMEN for me time! I don't even have kids but there are those times when everyone needs it! Some days more than others. Glad to hear things went well w. the little one in RIC yesterday, I was praying for ya'll. And I think I finally figured out how to correctly link up to you. If not, you can yell at me this time and then maybe give me directions on how not to screw it up a third time!!

  5. i'm glad there's no surgery for michaela! have fun at MOPS tomorrow!

  6. So glad about your wee one!
The bookstore is one of my favorite places to go. In fact, on the rare occasion that Craig and I have a "date", after dinner we almost always go to Borders or B&N.
Love Panera too! Of course, here in it's birth place, it's called St. Louis Bread Co., or as we locals say "the bread company".

  7. Rejoicing with you on the good news!! I am thankful for all things great or small!!

  8. Holy crap...I hate when I miss important stuff. So sorry I didn't make it by yesterday. I'm very glad to hear about the positive news from the P.G. (that's what I call them!). We've gotten friendly with one of those ourselves...thanks to my 2 oldest kids!

I love Borders! Sounds like a lovely way to spend some me time. I know EXACTLY what you mean about that "overwhelmed, needing to escape feeling"! I like to go for a drive, and turn my music up really loud. Right now I have in my changer: Daughtry, David Cook, Kelly Clarkson, the NEW Daughtry and a mixed C.D. of faves...this really helps me get my mind set right!

I love to hear your feedback! Please feel free to leave comments...just don't send me spam asking me to buy stuff off your website! I've got three kids and no money to purchase your magic weight-loss pill or bust enhancement, or whatever else you might be selling. Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you! :)
