Summer Blogger Guilt

Every so often I wax philosophical here. Yesterday, I was feeling bad that I haven't had any big DIY or craft projects to share here on the blog lately. Bloggers are often guilty of the "comparison game," and I felt like I haven't been measuring up when I look at the amazing projects I see (and share/link to) every week. A lot of that is due to "budget restrictions," but some of it is summer fever.

Quite honestly, I peeked at my calendar (two weeks until school begins for Natalie), glanced at a book I want to start...and thought "I'd really rather be at the pool right now."

Some of my blogger friends have taken summer breaks, even my friend Kate from Centsational Girl who noted that there's more to life than decorating and DIY projects (and blogging). Sometimes you just need a break from it all, right?

So...no excuses for a lack of projects and tutorials this week. You'll find me with a glass of lemonade this afternoon...reading (and ignoring the massive pile of Barbies in the play area).

How do you carve out a few minutes of time for yourself?

  1. GOOD FOR YOU! I'm glad you're able to enjoy time with your girls and enjoy the summer - there's more to life than blogging!! :)

  2. I suffer from the blogger guilt, too!

I have just returned from a two week trip to Chicago/NW Indiana - I worked most of the time while I was up there (my company's head office is in Chicago), but I managed to sneak some "me" time, and visited a couple of crafting stores while I was there - I took pictures inside of the store to share with my readers, as a substitute for an actual crafting post.

The summer goes by so quickly - I'd rather be out enjoying it than sitting inside fretting about what I'm going to blog about next!

  5. I'm guilty, too but regardless of how many or what types of projects you share, I come back to read about 'you'. We connect with bloggers through their writing voice and their authenticity, not the quantity of projects. So enjoy yourself and know your readers will be here when you get back.

  6. I've been taking a break almost all summer too...and I kind of feel bad about it, but not bad enough to work on any big projects either:) Enjoy your book!

  8. I think we all have the "Summer Slums" as my mother calls it- I took two weeks from my shop and basically sat around and watched tv. Looking back- that may not have been my best idea- however it was a much needed break! I hope you enjoy your time to relax and refresh!

  9. Don't feel guilty, Amanda!! We all need time to do nothing. I have been terrible about posting this summer. My baby girl is headed off to 1st grade in a matter of weeks and I want to get as much time with her as I can before she starts school all day. Enjoy!!!

  10. Take a break! I have never had the time or money to only post about projects, so I just write about whatever comes to mind. And sometimes I don't write at all. I've never had a problem with guilt, though. Not sure if it's because I've made peace with my choices or because I'm oblivious. Anyway, I'm off to eat bonbons.

  12. I feel the same way sometimes! But it's true, there's more to life than blogging. It's good to take time for ourselves and spend time with those around us instead of time behind the computer :)

  13. Dont feel guilty! It's called life! I've had a very off summer as far as blogging goes as well. I'd much rather spend my time and money soaking up the sun and enjoying the summer with friends :)

  14. You ve done a lot, not just for you, but for your family and every one of your readers already. Relays, chill, take time out to enjoy life as Kate says, after all, blogging, though a passion for a lot of us, does not truly define who and what we are. Keep smilin and enjoy the sun! :-)

  16. Good for you! I've only recently started to deliberately take time out for myself weekly just for me time. Summer will be over before you know it, enjoy it while you can :-)

  18. Umm, I might shoot myself if I see another DIY project on my list of things to do so I decided to throw my list away :) hehe. It's summer, chill out and relax. Everyone needs time to themselves and if you think about it, working outside the home, you would probably have "time off" from a job so you deserve time off from the blog :)

  19. Good for you!! I've been basically MIA all summer long. And I bet my readers don't want to read about how many pieces of toys I pick up every single day from the floor!!! Hopefully as soon as school start I'll be crafting more :)

  22. Good for you, Amanda! I'm just glad to hear that you're taking a break by reading a book. Too often, "a few minutes to myself" entails my sitting here at the computer--and that's mostly what I need to take a break FROM! Happy reading!

  23. I'd love to win one of these! Jack was just saying that he was going to start taking his lunch to work (which he never does right now). This would be just the thing to get him started!

I love to hear your feedback! Please feel free to leave comments...just don't send me spam asking me to buy stuff off your website! I've got three kids and no money to purchase your magic weight-loss pill or bust enhancement, or whatever else you might be selling. Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you! :)
