A Festivus for the Rest of Us

"The tradition of Festivus begins with the airing of grievances.
I got a lotta problems with you people..."
-Frank Costanza

As much as I love the "Festivus" episode of Seinfeld with the airing of grievances and the feats of strength, I'm glad that I celebrate Christmas with my family.

Instead of dragging a metal pole into my house like Frank Costanza, I bring in traditions like baking cookies with my kids, watching Christmas movies, and driving around to look at lights.

Thought it might be fun to share a few from around the 'Burg. You'll have to excuse the bad photos...I was driving, and had to stop to take the pictures from my side of the car each time. This method doesn't ensure for the loveliest shots.

From the "Olde Towne" area of the 'Burg:

The display by the guy who owns one of the local bakeries:

A couple of fun ones on our street:

The Griswolds' House, across the street from us. Michaela Byrd says it looks like a gingerbread house, and it's so fun to see their lights come up:

We have some really amazing lights displays on the other side of the neighborhood, but it was getting late and we didn't have any more time left to drive around.

So I'll leave you with this hilarious clip to show you what Festivus would be like if you decide to celebrate it instead.

I just hope you've been working out so you can win the "feats of strength". I'll be eating Christmas cookies!

  1. Hi Amanda! Thanks for stopping by! Sorry I've been such a lam-o lately. Life has been so busy lately- all good stuff, but I haven't gotten much time on the computer. I'm hoping things will slow down some in the new year!

We found out recently that my hubby's buddy's real name is "Festus" (he's gone by "Corey" his whole life) it was a real "Cosmo Kramer" moment! And he's getting teased a lot about Festivus in the last few weeks!

  2. Craig said something about Festivus to one of his patients the other day (age 20-something) and she had no idea what he was talking about. Neither did her friend, they looked it up online and said "hey, there is a Festivus!"
I keep telling him that referencing Seinfeld is a dead-giveaway of his age ;)

  3. I had to laugh at Holly's comment. It's true, young people have no idea about Seinfeld. haha!!!!

We drove around and looked at lights last night too. Our neighborhood had the best displays.

  4. Hey Amanda!

I nearly emailed you earlier today--when my 17-year-old got up, he made himself a cup of coffee and said, "Happy Festivus" to me. No kidding! I knew you'd appreciate that.

    Love all the lights!!

  5. Happy Festivus Amanda:) Did you see the post at Cakewrecks today?!? We haven't gone to see lights yet, but I'm hoping we have time tonight. Apparently there is a house not far from us that has their lights set to music! How cool is that:) I hope you have a great Christmas!

  7. You have some great light displays in your area. Looking at lights is one thing that we've not really done in a few years and I miss it. Maybe tonight!!

I watched your clip in the car yesterday and laughed and laughed. Seinfeld was such a great show!

I love to hear your feedback! Please feel free to leave comments...just don't send me spam asking me to buy stuff off your website! I've got three kids and no money to purchase your magic weight-loss pill or bust enhancement, or whatever else you might be selling. Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you! :)
