To the Makers of Infants' Vitamin Drops with Iron,
It would be awesome if you could come up with a product that does not cause my toddler to turn into a cranky contortionist every time she sees me coming after her with a dropper.
It would be great if it didn't require some sort of industrial strength cleaner to remove stains from my clothes after she yells and it comes leaking out of the side of her mouth and she buries her face in my shoulder. Seriously, I need to find whatever they clean the Statue of Liberty with, and maybe that will get the stains out.
I bet she wouldn't yell and try to bend herself backwards out of my arms if the stuff didn't look and taste like that betadine antiseptic they swab you with at the hospital.
I know it tastes bad because I tried it this morning.
I thought, "Come on. It can't be that bad. It's just a little vitamin. I'll give it a try.
It was that bad. It was so horrible that all the chocolate cake in the world can't block that awful taste from my memory.
It's not my toddler. It's you. It's definitely you. When it's time for her sulfamethoxawhatchamacallit antibiotic, she dances around as if Santa Claus was coming. So that would lead me to believe that there could be a slight problem with your marketing strategy.
We have put a man on the moon and we can't make vitamin drops that appeal to fickle and finicky toddler taste buds?
Do I need to put you in touch with the Flintstones people?

Because I will.
I am running out of ways to trick her into coming into the bathroom every morning.
Signed,
The Mother of a Weasely Toddler
Surely you have tried gummy vitamins???? Allison STILL loves to take those!!! no joke!
ReplyDeleteSuzanne
I'll take your word for it. We aren't "there yet." Hey I nominated you for an award! come by and check it out!!
ReplyDeleteHahahaha OMG this made me laugh so hard! I feel the SAME way:) I mean seriously people...add a little flavoring it never hurt anything!
ReplyDeleteAwwww, I'd probably react the same way if I had to take something like that.
ReplyDeleteAmanda, I am totally with you. Caroline actually LOVES her sticky, brown, syrup-like drops (they smell like they're flavored with fake fruit flavor and a gallon of saccharin), but that means I have to wrestle her to get the drops AWAY from her rather than INTO her. Why would anyone make an infant-related liquid product that is dark brown, sticky, and impossible to get out of clothing? I have asked myself this question oh-so-many times in the past year. Maybe we should invent a better formula and become zillionaires.
ReplyDeleteThat really makes me wonder why I DRANK an entire bottle of that stuff when I was a little kid. No joke - Had to get my stomach pumped and everything.
ReplyDeleteI guess that explains some of my bizarre food choices as an adult, hehe! :)
My gosh I totally forgot about those liquid vitamins. Yuck.
ReplyDeleteHey amanda its Kandis. LyndseyMae had to take those drops with iron and we were told we could mix it with juice. So every morning we would put the drops in a little bit of applejuice and water and her iron levels went up finally after a yr.
ReplyDeleteawww, poor kiddo.
ReplyDeletei take the gummy vitamins. no joke. yeah, i'm 30, so what?!
kelly
i feel michaela's pain! i've been taking blackstrap molasses by the tablespoon full to get my iron without getting constipated and it is some fierce nasty stuff!! i might try the infant drops for myself:o)
ReplyDeleteoooo ever try the gumball vitamins... too delicious!
ReplyDeleteI'm blogging now, so you'll have to check out my site ;) I remember going to work with pink dots sprayed all over my face and hair when Jake wouldn't take his amoxic. and it tasted fine. We would have to hold Jake down and force it down his throat. Isn't motherhood supposed to be easier? LOL! Hang in there. Sorry to hear about M.Byrd.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the laugh - but sorry it's at your "real life" expense!!
ReplyDeletemeds or vitamins = no fun!
I bought an adult multivitamin liquid because I don't like swallowing pills, and I thought it would be easier. It was so disgusting I didn't take it more than once. That was like $30 down the drain.
ReplyDeleteSo, yeah, liquid vitamins=gross.
Really...what's up with that?
ReplyDeleteI hope you finda tasty solution soon!
I still haven't had a chance to watch the show! And now my son has Swine Flu, so I can't go to my moms and watch it because my dad has health problems and I can't be around him with this in our family!
But our show is in just 9 more days! Eeek!
Another well written blog that made me chuckle. Thanks for the laugh. BTW, I agree with you, that stuff is SO gross!
ReplyDeleteI'm actually a Candice Bushnell fan. Glamorous subject matter aside, I think she does incredible character development. Trading Up was my favorite. I didn't like the protagonist (and I doubt you were supposed to), but I just loved reading about her.
ReplyDeleteI have to get that new one...
Awwww, I feel bad for your little girl :(. But I have to tell you that I giggled hysterically with your description of her face when she takes the vitamin... it was so cute! I agree that it can't be *that* hard to make that stuff taste a little better (I've also tried it and it's AWFUL).
ReplyDeleteYour blog is adorable and so I'm going to follow it :)
Happy SITS Saturday Sharefest! And Happy Halloween too!
Awww, darlin' that sounds like "zero fun" as we say around here. I can't even bother with such anxiety... I skip right to the gummy vitamins - you know the overpriced no preservatives version that buys me "Good Mommy" points in my little bubble world.
