IKEA Shopping and Home Decor, Fall 2012

The girls and I headed up to the Woodbridge IKEA yesterday so I could take a peek at the new Fall items I spied in the catalog (and so they could play in the Smaland). We didn't have a lot of time to browse, but I was excited to see new room designs and new pieces everywhere! Please bear with the iPhone pics, but I just had to show you some of the awesomeness I spotted on our little IKEA shopping trip. (Not a sponsored post...I just love some cute Swedish stuff)

One very positive thing I noted in the new catalog and also in the showroom was that the IKEA designers not only offer ideas on ways to "hack" their pieces, but there also seemed to be more accessorizing than usual. I noticed more of the smaller, inexpensive "extras" from the marketplace scattered about the showroom. I liked it!

Lots of layering--very nice:

I also appreciate that IKEA seems to realize that many families use their spaces in a multi-functional way. They take that into account when they put showrooms together.

The designers do a great job of separating this dining room from a family room with a pretty sofa table:

Love how a tiny table with two existing chairs gets a boost with a red bench and some cushions on the wall that serve as backrests:

These industrial-style kitchen island/carts? I die! The butcher block actually comes off the one on the left!

Speaking of carts, they didn't have one in aqua, but I did find the new kitchen cart, and it is just as cute in person! It's powder coated...wonder how this piece would do outside??

Some girls I know amused themselves under this loft bed:

As for the marketplace, I saw quite a few fun new things there too!

We came home with some bins for the new/old IKEA Thrifted Expedit I scored for $50. I only bought 5 this time, but I plan on going back for more another day.

Which room or product was your favorite?

  2. IKEA is one of those places that when i drive by it has a magnetic force that makes my car drive there. I loved the bedroom with the white furniture, chandelier, and silver framed photos above the bed. Looked so cozy and feminine.

  3. It looks like they've added a much more vintage/thrifted look. I like it! I really wish a trip to Ikea didn't require at least an overnight stay 6 hours away for me!

  4. Ahhh, we were just at one a couple weeks ago and I didn't see any of that cute stuff! We were flying through though -- and I still was able to stuff my arms full. ;)

  5. Next time, we should meet up there. That is my IKEA as well. I get so many ideas when I walk through IKEA. They definitely show you idea of how to organize and use a space more than one way. LOVE IT! When we were there about a month ago, I got that cute glass mug you have a picture of in pink. One for each of my girls.

  16. Oh IKEA, I miss you when you are a million miles away. Or at least you might as well be since I can't just get in the car and drive to you easily.

So much of this seems a lot more traditional/cottage-y than other stuff I've seen from them! I never would have guessed that first picture was IKEA. I like it.

Those girls you know look like they're having fun. ;)

  17. Great shots. I'm especially loving the finite bedroom with the buffalo check pilows. An I actually bougt the grey cart in the spring. It's really nice. It originally lived in the nursery for changing table stuff. Now it lives in the bathroom. Super versatile.

  18. Oh Ikea... The Woodbridge Ikea is the closest one to me and it's still 2 hours away! I guess it's a good thing, but at the same time I wish it was closer! I need to go back since the new catalog is out now!

I love to hear your feedback! Please feel free to leave comments...just don't send me spam asking me to buy stuff off your website! I've got three kids and no money to purchase your magic weight-loss pill or bust enhancement, or whatever else you might be selling. Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you! :)
