DIY: Winter Snowflake Banner

Have you ever had a Holiday Hangover?

The presents have been unwrapped, decorations stored away until next year, cookies eaten, and parties attended. Sometimes, the first few weeks after the holidays make me feel like all that looms ahead of me is a long, gloomy winter.

I love the fresh, clean, I-can-do-anything feeling I get when January 1st rolls around, but sometimes I feel like I need a little sparkle around the T house while I wait to dig out the Valentine's decor.

Remember this stuff?

Yesterday, I decided it was time to break out a little winter sparkle!

I started with the bare windows in the addition.

Only a few weeks ago, it was festooned with garland, polka dot ribbon, and glittery ornaments. Like I said, I love the fresh start of January, but I need some shine.

I looped one end of my pom pom fringe around the end of the curtain rod and safety pinned it in place.
I'm sure hot glue would have worked too, but I need to be able to take this down quickly in a few weeks, and once I turned it back around, the safety pin was not noticeable.

I did the same with the other end, tucking the extra length of fringe behind the curtains after I took the photo:

Time to accessorize! I knew the glittery snowflakes I picked up at Target's 50% off sale would come in handy!

I looped each one through the pom pom attachments:

Love it! A great solution to the "winter blahs" I felt over the weekend.

  1. Very cute. I am hoping to get a similar snowflake garland up. One of these days...just after I actually get around to taking down the Christmas decorations. AHH! That's the goal for this week!

  6. Absolutely darling ! It's charming how it "matches" the snow on the ground outside. I love how you're celebrating winter instead of rushing towards spring !

  7. Love it! Yesterday as we finally got the tree and everything down, I was wondering what am I going to put in all my jars now? I thought of snowflakes, but I wasn't smart enough like you to get them at the clearance sales.

I love to hear your feedback! Please feel free to leave comments...just don't send me spam asking me to buy stuff off your website! I've got three kids and no money to purchase your magic weight-loss pill or bust enhancement, or whatever else you might be selling. Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you! :)
