27 Days of Thankful, #8

It's Day #8 of 27 Days of Thankful. Click the link to find out what's going on here every day in November until Thanksgiving Day.

Two of my best girls came over for a Girls Night/Planning Party last night (the 4th member of our party was waylaid at the E.R. due to a child with an injured foot). We'll be heading up to New York City for a day in December for our annual I {Heart} New York Trip.

We're a fairly laid-back bunch, so after agreeing that no one had anything in particular in the City that they had to see (with the exception of Tiffany & Co. and parts of Central Park), we just sat around, indulged in a brownie sundae, and chatted.

It was perfection.

These are the fluffy white slipper socks I wore.
I had to toss my regular slippers because they were too disgusting old, and these looked like they'd do the trick.

I spent the afternoon letting my children turn into television zombies while I rushed around trying to pick up all the toys and un-ironed clothes, wiping ketchup off the Kitchen table, and generally creating the illusion that my house is not a disaster.

15 minutes before my friends were supposed to show up, I debated going back upstairs to put on some cute clothes. Then Natalie stole a baby doll from her little sister and World War 3 broke out and I forgot about changing clothes.

My friends didn't bat an eyelash when I opened the door in my fuzzy slipper socks, yoga pants, a t-shirt, and a crazed look in my eyes. We had a lovely evening despite the fact that I was dressed like I should be in a dorm room somewhere studying for a midterm.

So today I am thankful for friends who don't judge me by what I am wearing or what my house looks like. They don't make me feel insecure because I forgot to swap my "house Mommy" clothes for "cute Mommy" clothes. They don't play "Keeping up with the Joneses." Instead, they readily share their own horror stories from work or home that can match my own. They make me feel normal when I am feeling anything but!

{What are you thankful for today?}

  1. This is a great one! I love it when I don't feel like I have to put on a "show" for friends and when they don't feel like they have to do so for me. It solidifies our bond of sisterhood.

  5. Today, I am thankful for a wonderful church with a pastor who is a very godly man and who God uses to challenge me every week! I am also very thankful that my little girl made the transition from baby nursery to walking nursery without even a whimper! (other kids scream and cry when their parents leave them so I was super nervous!!)

  6. Having great friends who accept you for who you are and don't judge you is one of life's greatest blessings. Your girls night in sounds like a lot of fun!

  7. I am thankful for the very breath God breathes into each day and the opportunity each day to walk him watching him change the stumbling blocks into stepping stones so that I may climb higher toward His Will for me ... remember the old song, " Higher Plane"

I love to hear your feedback! Please feel free to leave comments...just don't send me spam asking me to buy stuff off your website! I've got three kids and no money to purchase your magic weight-loss pill or bust enhancement, or whatever else you might be selling. Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you! :)
