to get a Prince.
Sure, I came home from Orlando to find packages of cookies, donuts, and Cheetos on my counters and a two year old who could sing the entire theme song to Dora the Explorer (perhaps a slight clue as to how my family spent their time in my absence?); but the guy who agrees without blinking an eye to let his wife head off on a Girls' Weekend is a Prince in my way of thinking.
T had a lot of help while I was gone, but I feel blessed that he didn't complain or make me feel bad for traveling with two friends to the MOPS Convention.
Kelly, Shawna, and I left Virginia on a 6:30 (AM!) flight to Orlando last Thursday, and we enjoyed every minute of our trip. We stayed at the Gaylord Palms, which is basically a mini version of the Opryland Hotel.
I actually preferred the Palms to Opryland because getting from Point A to Point B didn't require 30 minutes of walking and shoes with supportive inserts. The service was excellent, and the restaurants (while pricey) had fabulous food. Here are some photos from the hotel:
PS. Yes, those are alligators in the upper right hand photo in that last collage. Ew.
Like I said, the food was great, and I enjoyed eating on a boat inside the hotel and at an amazing Italian buffet that Nadir recommended.
Our days were pretty full with large group sessions and workshops with a couple thousand other moms...talk about an estrogen overload. We came home with so many fun ideas to implement in our own group, and we got to know each other better.
If you're a country music fan, you would have enjoyed hearing Richie McDonald (formerly of Lonestar) play a small concert for the MOPS group. I had no idea who he was until hearing him sing. Kelly and I passed him playing in a small piano bar later that night, and I may or may not have blown a few kisses at him, but it's okay because I had just finished off a free margarita and Richie didn't see me anyways.
And what's a trip to Orlando without spending some money at Disney? We didn't get to go to the Magic Kingdom (a major dream for me to take my girls!), but since we'd all been before, we settled on shopping at Downtown Disney. We got to ride a water taxi there, and met two MOPS girls from Minnesota.
I like to say "Minnesota" with a Minnesotan accent.
I {heart} Disney.
We had a little bit of a panic getting back to the Gaylord for our shuttle to the airport, but all's well that ends well.
We're home safe, and the most important thing, if you ask Natalie, is that I brought her a surprise.
But I was happy to get home to my Prince and the two (sugar-filled) Princesses. Back to Life, Back to Reality.

ReplyDeleteHeehee! Looks like you had fun! My co-worker & I were fortunate enough to have all our meals & room paid for by our boss since it was for a conference he wanted us to attend but money can't put a price on the memories that we made that weekend :-)
ReplyDeleteT is a prince!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun time, I bet you're totally re-charged now :)
T is a prince, no doubt about it. And N and MB are princesses. Just in case you hadn't noticed, that would make you Queen!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you had fun at the MOPS convention! Have a great day, your Majesty. ;)

Wow, a weekend away with no kids? I'm sooo jealous. Looks like y'all had a great time! The hotel looks nice and the buffet? Um, yes, please. Free margarita? Yes!! Yes!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet picture of you and T. You look so cute in your glasses!!! Love them on you!
Oh my goodness! I thought that was you on my flight home from MCO Sunday night but it was so late and I was too tired to possibly make a fool of myself by just walking up and introducing myself. I work with Su Su and got a surprise when I saw myself last November your Merry Market post photos. Very small world!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you had a fun weekend with your girlfriends. I'll bet your two sweeties were glad to see you when you came home.
